FAQs
What is Pythagoras' theorem?
+
In a right-angled triangle, the square of the longest side (the hypotenuse) equals the sum of the squares of the other two sides: a² + b² = c².
How do I find the length of the diagonal?
+
Square the two shorter sides, add them, and take the square root. A rectangle 3000mm by 4000mm has a diagonal of √(3000² + 4000²) = 5000mm.
How do I check a corner is square on site?
+
Use the 3-4-5 method. Measure 3 units along one side and 4 units along the other; if the corner is square, the diagonal between those points is exactly 5 units. 600, 800 and 1000mm, or 3, 4 and 5m, both work.
How do I find an angle from two sides?
+
Use trigonometry. The tangent of an angle is the opposite side divided by the adjacent side, so angle = arctan(opposite ÷ adjacent). Sine and cosine work the same way when you know the hypotenuse.
